One Size Doesn't Fit.

What's the idea of one size fits all? Tax cuts/increases across the board for this group or that. Spending cuts for all government programs. Farm subsidies for all farms small and large. As if all circumstances are them same for everyone. Is it just laziness or is it too costly to look at things on an individual level? I can answer the question myself. Yes, it is costly. Although, there are pages and pages of exemptions in our tax code for groups and corporations and yes, even certain individuals. How much did that cost? Don't believe me? Read the book; America: Who Really Pays The Taxes? by Bartlett & Steele. Published in 1994 in case you're wondering.
The "cap" on Social Security is an example of one size-fits-all. Check it out!
Most people do not realize that after one earns $106,800, they no longer have a social security tax withheld from their pay checks. The most any employee, including Bank CEO's, Entertainers, Sports figures, CEO's of large corporations, will pay into Social Security per year is just under $6,700. Corporations match what they withhold from employee's pay checks. Therefore, our large Corporations are only responsible for paying in just under $6700.00 per year per employee. AMAZING! Just one example but, a HUGH one. There shouldn't be a cap. Love it or hate it is a social program!
Or how about our school system and standardized testing. I understand the concept and if all things were already equal, I suppose this idea might work. We are a long way from being equal and you cannot pull equality out of thin air. Yes, you can legislate it, but there's plenty of argument against that.
All governments/corporations are great/evil. Depending of course, on one's point of view. Truth is that one size seldom fits all unless we're talking ball caps. Even those are adjustable.
Not every poor person is lazy, nor did every wealthy person inherit his/her wealth. All government programs aren't plans to take over our lives and all corporations are not bent on destroying the environment, just to make a dollar.
Stop taking the easy way out and come up with some real ideas. One size doesn't fit all or fix much of anything.

  1. Question, and this might sound deeply shallow. When you say "individual", do you mean as in person by person or interest groups/situational legislating? Second question? If social security is to be used by 90% of the country because 10% of the country will never use it because of their independent wealth, you don't think it's ok to give them a break. Otherwise, they're just throwing money into a pool that they will never benefit from.

  3. When I was very young, there were welfare case workers who could pay a visit unannounced. The did away with the program because it was too costly.
In regards to Social Security, it IS a social program, and though I believe it should be replaced, it makes no sense to me for anyone to be exempt. I have no children, yet I pay school tax.
